We’re here! After months of preparation, stress and late nights the Silent Collective have upped and left the sunny climes of London for the rather foggy shores of Edinburgh. Things have been going pretty well since we arrived, the flat we’re staying at has proved to be a most hospitable place to hole up away from the madness that is the Fringe festival.
As there’s no internet in our flat we’re doing to the time-honoured tradition of beaming this from the very comfortable sofa at the back of a Polish internet cafe, somewhere off Easter Road. But still, this combined with the lack of TV hasn’t dampened our spirits! So the plan is rehearsing for the rest of the day until our dress rehearsal tonight, from there we have all of tomorrow to relax and take stock before the insanity truly begins. For tomorrow night is the opening performance of Silence in C Minor at C Soco!

Hey everyone, John here reporting from the relative safety of the makeshift studio.
We’re eye-deep in the maelstrom here at Silence Inc. and on one of my rare nights off I’m in the process of preparing some final bits and pieces for my role in the show. It’s all going pretty well and one of the runs we had recently was quite a good one so I think everyone’s feeling a bit energised at the moment.
I’m sure this will all change though next week, or next Saturday to be precise when we all drive up in a small car to save on the pennies. It’s weird to think that this really is it, in less than two weeks we’ll have been up there for a bit living in our rented flat and a few performances will be under our belt. Here’s another photo from one of the recent church rehearsals:

So not long now…

The actor must prepare, fully, for the part. Research, physical and mental preparation in order to create something real and believable.
So it is one hell of a task when you have to play 5 characters. Writers. trust them to make your life harder! Yes I’ll be blogging here about the arduous journey of discovery that is creating a character, the highs and the lows, the back pain and sore throats, the learning of lines and the myriad influences. I, James Patrick Groom, will tell you all. Read the rest of this entry »

Good morning, good evening, good afternoon,
I’m JP Cooper, the one that writes Silence and acts . . . well loads of bloody characters; but mainly Alex Wenterton. I see Mr Doree has been posting his posterior off and thought it about time I get in on the act. This is the first blog I’ll have ever done . . . it feels a little like the writing equivalent of kissing a mirror, but I’m sure I’ll adjust.
In this post I’m going to cover a couple of bits and pieces :-
(There’s a lovely little numbered list below these words. Do feel free to use it with your eyes, but please return it to its proper place when finished)
1) Who I am, and what I’m up to?
2) Silence in C Minor the History Part 1
Feel free to flick to the bits that interest you, or if none of it does then stop reading and play ‘Which is your Nose’ with yourself in the mirror . . . now!
